We all pottered down to the flea market where we shopped and grazed for the morning before bidding farewell to Anna and Sam and heading up to 42nd Street to meet Galea and Adelaide and see Matilda on Broadway.
On the subway couple of buskers jumped on the carriage as they often do. These two were particularly talented and they walked up and down the carriage belting out a warm and hearty version of Country Road. In these situations New Yorkers often shuffle, look away, plug their headphones in or stick their heads further into their books but today, in that carriage the enthusiasm was infectious and a good part of our carriage joined in for the chorus (who can resist the chorus of country road?)
It was a magic, New York subway moment and we almost felt like following them when they dashed of our carriage at the next stop to entertain another carriage??
Who needs to pay hundreds of dollars to see a Broadway show when you have such top quality subway entertainment, you say??
Well, I'll be honest, I'm not the biggest musical theatre fan in the world but Matilda was absolutely fantastic. It was dark and moody and fun and soulful and really just pure magic from beginning to end. Our day was finished off with a rowdy dinner of take out at Rach's playing different covers of Country Road and singing along to most of them too!!
