Little poppet

Apparently one particular face amongst the photos of kids at Borhan school made my Mum cry into her bowl of muesli and yoghurt. I must say I was quite captivated by this little character myself and she caught Jed's eye too as he thought she seemed sad. He set about trying to make her laugh and I think he managed to coax a smile out of her. She was in the kindy class and may have just been overwhelmed by the whole proceedings. I didn't think she was necessarily sad so much as serious or thoughtful. To me she looked like a eighty year old woman stuck in a tiny child's body. She looked wise beyond her years. When I looked at her I wondered what the future held for all of these bright, enthusiastic kids. They had lots of space and fresh air (just having to dodge unexploded bombs) and were healthy, with access to education. The school was right up Jed's alley - fire burning in the playground, bare feet in the class room, home for lunch, lots of laughter.
I'm sure it's not quite that rosy all the time but on that morning it looked like a happy place and the future looked bright for those kids.
